Would a glock be a good first pistol?

Nothing against Glock, but you should really shop around and try a few other guns to see if there are any you like better. It sounds like you haven't experienced much in the way of handguns, so there might be something out there for you that blows the Glock away. See if a range near you rents guns and try a few.
