Do librarians check books for damage?

my little brother got a hold of my library book (from middle school library) and tore a couple pages out...its not noticable unless you look for it. will i get in trouble? id rather not explain what happened...so do they inspect books page for page, or just skim through it? he tore out a couple of the pictures (with color) so its kinda noticable that those pages are gone....
